ATARRAYA is a Colombian company founded in November 2008 by two graduate fashion designers, Juliana Monroy and Giovanna Dominguez. They devoted their passion to design leather accessories and thrived in the business of purses to become a brand that unveils Colombian talent. The leather is implemented in the manufacturing process along with hand-woven craftwork, which is strongly influenced by the indigenous Colombian tribe, Wayúu. The Wayúu, settled in the Guajira Peninsula have devoted their life to weaving. They have consolidated this activity not as a cultural aspect or a hereditary tradition passed on from their ancestors but rather the essence of life. It's the mean through which the Wayúu manifest their intellect, creativity and wisdom within their community. The hand-woven textiles are very eye catchy due to the vivid colors used, the designs and the complex techniques used during elaboration. The traditional motifs pertinent to their culture are based on geometrical shapes that symbolize elements of nature (fauna, flora, stars, etc.) present in their environment.<br />
