Great question! Sketchers sure has put a lot of money into advertising these great new Shape Up shoes.
Doing a little research I was able to come up with some great reviews of brave women willing to try them out. Here is what they said:
"Basically the shoes put you slightly off balance and your muscles are constantly working to keep you balanced and centered. Staying balanced while wearing the shoes requires the use of muscles in the legs, abs and buttocks not used with standard walking shoes. It took me a couple of days to get used to it. My first day frustration turned into wonder when after twenty minutes of a moderate walk my muscles felt like after an hour of vigorous gym work out.
*Strengthen the back, Firm calf and buttock muscles, Reduce cellulite and tone your thighs- Well, I definitely could feel my muscles working, while walking in Shape-Ups, from my calves all the way up to my back. When you make an effort to keep your balance, it requires core strength, so naturally doing a lot of balancing on these shoes should strengthen your core. Balancing is also supposed to improve circulation in the legs and feet, reducing swelling. *Increase cardiovascular health.- With all mentioned above it makes sense! *Improve posture- Yes, I can testify to this. I use to stoop and have to constantly keep in mind to keep my shoulders straight. With Shape-Ups it comes naturally. My reflections in shop windows testify it. You naturally have to maintain good posture to stay balanced on unstable surfaces (and the bottoms of these shoes are not flat!). *Reduce stress on knee and ankle joints- Smooth and rolling-like movements relieve pressure on joints and tendons. I used to have some knee discomfort, but my knees don’t bother me when I walk in Shape-Ups."
So it seems that they do indeed work! They are pretty reasonably priced, well, way less than I a gym membership. It seems like a pretty easy work on though it will probably take a little getting used to.
I would recommend wearing them in the house for awhile just in case you roll your ankle or fall. Then at least you won't be laying on your neighbors sidewalk in funky looking shoes.
If they don't work out you could probably always sell them on Ebay to someone else who wants to try them and not pay full price for them just yet.

Skechers shape ups or Reebok Easytone shoes would be the best for a good workout for your legs and butt. The shoes are made to tone your legs and butt while your just walking around. Shoes can be found at http://www.skechers.com for $110.00 or at http://www.reebok.com $59.98 for flip flops or $124.98 for sneakers. Kohls also sells Skechers shape ups for $99.00 and FinishLine sells them for the same price.

Boy do I know about exercise. That is my New Years Resolution. The shoe that I have found to be the best for comfort and exercise would be Ryka. The only thing with Ryka is that you will spend a bit more than let's say Nike. You would be spending about $80.00 on a pair of Rykas at Sports Authority.
Now since you are looking for the best exercise shoe with the best price, I would highly recommend Reebok. They have a pair at Sports Authority which is their classic version, which is one of their best. They cost $50.00. Here is the link: http://www.sportsauthority.com/product/index.jsp?productId=12648&cp=3077570.3079721.2867026&fbc=1&f=Brand%2F55%2F&fbn=Brand|Reebok&lmdn=Brand&parentPage=family
Now if you want to spend the extra money, I would go with Ryka. But if you are looking for something reasonable and great quality, then definitely go for the Reebok. Enjoy working out! You will feel so much better in the long run! Happy New Year! If you have any more questions, feel free to ask us here at IMShopping from all our expert shoppers!
