The camera's themselves are now virtually indistinguishable - they have become commodity goods. The distinguishing factors are the back-end systems: a basic recording system will let you record multiple cameras to a VHS tape, slightly better is a DVR (digital video recording) system that will save to a PC's hard-disk. However, you are likely to end up with a disk full of useless images, so better still is a system that records when there is movement in the image and also lets you set further 'alarm' states - areas where people should not be or times of day when there should be no movement (e.g. at night). Even so there are plenty of manufacturers and installer of this kind of system. I have used iGuard from IDS in Germany before, but there are plenty out there. Probably more important is that you have a local installer who can support you. Finally make sure that the cameras actually give you 'good enough' images. This becomes the reponsibility of the installer to choose cheap, but not too cheap cameras. Also lenses, location and positioning need to be considered, even illumination changes with time of day. In short? Yellow pages and get a demo from the installer.
