To actually get an iphone that is activated and works, it does not appear there is any "legal" way to get an iphone with out getting a contract. Since you have to go with ATT there really is no way around it .
Since the "newer" version has come out now you can get the "older" version for around $99 . Which is about $100 less than what the new one runs . I looked into this for my son . He has the old version . Sorry , good luck though .
