If I were to purchase a new phone on Verizon, I would go for the new Blackberry Storm. The storm is designed for the on the go, plugged in consumer. Its very easy to use and has a large touch screen. I was on the airplane last week and the guy next to me was watching a movie on his Storm. I was shocked at the picture quality. The storm is priced right too at $199 (with a new 2 year contract.) The Storm also comes with an 8 gig Micro SD card so you can store plenty of media (music, movies, etc.) If you ever have the need to expand your storage, you can purchase a larger SD card for your Storm. The iPhone does not offer this feature. I've linked to a 16gig Micro SD card for you as well.
