What is a good Christmas gift for a 5 year old boy?

There are so many things a 5 year old would love!

My 5 year old boy loves Lego's and anything that has anything to do with a truck or car. The color shifters are very fun. The color of the car changes with hot or cold water. It stays the color you change it to until you decide to change it back. The tracks are fun that go with them too!

The tag reading system is also a great gift. They can either use it to read independently, or you can sit with them to read. The books really come to life with the tag pen, making it very rewarding!

Board games like memory are also a good choice. It gets them away from the TV and other electronics, and gives you a chance to spend quality time with him!

Anything Transformers!!!  Little boys love Transformers!  Toys R us has the best selection of Transfomers stuff.

Also, any of the Crayola Mess Free Color Wonders items are really fun for the more artsy/crafty kiddos.  They are wonderful because they really don't make a mess, which means no clean up!  Also, they are pretty inexpensive!  I always get my kids a Color Wonder item for Christmas, since they are perfect for all ages!  Crayola also has a bunch of different things, not just the Color Wonders, so you should check them out at http://www.crayola.com.

My son wanted a Green Machine when he was five!  Those are awesome!  I wish I was little enough to get one myself :)

I've got a couple of ideas for you. The Crayola washable windows markers would let him have a blast drawing all over the windows and mirrors. What five year old doesn't like making a giant mess? Then mom can wash it off and the fun starts all over again. Also for no mess fun is the Crayola Color Wonder series. It has paints, markers, and such that will only mark on the special color wonder paper. I included two kits but there is more. If you get this be sure to buy extra paper. The kid tough doodler is like the doodlers that we all had growing up except that they don't brake! Bubbles are always fun and not messy. This toy would get him outside. My personal favorite, and what I am saving up for this Christmas, is the Kid tough portable dvd player. You can attach head phones (They make kid tough head phones as well) so only he can hear the movie. These are gotten great reviews and are perfect for the car, plane, store, home, where ever! It's like a gift for both of you!

I have 3 boys and am a preschool teacher. I think I have seen every toy in exsistence. My teacher in me, says to get him puzzles, books, or even a telescope (depending on your price budget).
On a personal level, legos are a huge hit with all of mine.  Legos come in all different prices to all different sizes, from $5.00-$500.00.
The toy that I have gotten that has gotten the most use for its money, is definitley the scooter though! This is a must have for every 5 year old boy, if he does not own one yet!
