As a person with two cats, to be absolutely honest, no matter how much you spend on toys, they will always prefer the stuff you have laying around the house like boxes or those rings around milk jugs (as long as they don't eat it) or even bags. I bought almost $100.00 in toys over the 4 years we've had them and now all of the toys are collecting dust in their toy box (yes, they have their own toy box).

My suggestion is to get some catnip-scented toys.  One of my cats is very sensitive to it and goes insane for 10 minutes while my other one could care less.  The cat that's not sensitive, he has his BOLT toy that keeps him occupied for hours and when he's not playing with it, the other cat is.  I wouldn't recommend any toys that are remote controlled like mice because even on low carpet, they don't work as well.  One of my cats like these really cheap mice I get by the dozen at http://www.drsfostersmith.com/ but the other one doesn't.

Cats are tricky because they have their own personality.  The only toy that has ever raised a whisker wth both of my cats is the Bolt toy. If you put it high enough, you won't have to worry about the laser penetrating their eyes.  Some cats, if you buy them a scratching post, do use it. Mine don't.  One of my cats will sit for hours and lick plastic bags.  He will actually steal them from the drawer.  I got so tired of it that now when I go shopping, he gets a plastic bag with the handles ripped off and holes poked through it (just in case he ever does get in it).

Cats love to play with things that they can bat around with their paws and chase after the toy and do it all over again.  They like playing with things that they can chase, and things that they can chew on.  I have included a couple of toys that I thought your cats might like to play with.
