There are so many really great running shoes! I would suggest going to Running Shoes Reviews and find out specific brand that you like in a running shoe before purchasing. ; )
Asics: Defying the prevailing trend of shoes dropping weight with each revision, the Evolution has actually gotten heavier the past two years. This isn't necessarily bad, since the extra weight has gone into firming up the arch and heel for big runners who need the extra support. While the Evolution is heavy and dense underfoot, it's surprisingly flexible. This results in a toe-off that feels more natural, especially when compared with the rigid ride of most motion-control shoes. Recommended for often-injured overpronators who need a superstable shoe.
WEAR-TESTERS SAY "This is the first shoe in which I have no pain after I run."—Deb Cosgrove, 53, Allentown
"It felt comfortable and breathable."—Tristan Dupuis, 47, East Lansing
Brooks Ravenna: This new shoe is built like a performance trainer, so it's exceedingly light and flexible for a stability model. While it offers good cushioning, a snug arch wrap, and a spacious forefoot that bends up slightly at the tip for an easy toe-off, the Ravenna doesn't have the beefy support structure found in the other shoes in this category. The testers liked the fit, but felt that the shoe lacked support on long runs.
WEAR-TESTERS SAY "It has a great wrap and generous forefoot fit."— Jake Crowe, 26, East Lansing
"It felt lighter and less stable than typical stability trainers, so it was great for middle-distance and tempo-type runs."—Christopher Garges, 34, Allentown
