Hi there. I read a lot about Nikon cameras and how good they are particularly the D3000, D5000 and the D90. So I would go with the D5000 if I were you. Check Amazon as you can see reviews for this camera and they are really good. They have an average of 4.5 stars. There isn't so much for the Canon Eos 500D. (But there are other Canon Eos cameras that have a lot of good reviews. Check them out.)
