my daughters car only has a cd player - no cassette player. She wants an adapter to plug her ipod into the car speakers Is this what I am looking for? Walmart has one that she wants but it's about $58

Yes this device will work, but if you live in the city there could be interference. Another option which is even better is the Aux Cable, if your daughters car have the Aux outlet then this CABLE will work perfectly providing stereo sound quality.  Just plug the Cable to the iPod and to the car stereo thats it.
