My daughter wants the InStyler Curling Iron/Straightner. Is it a good buy and is it really worth it? Has anyone bought one and tried it out?

I have purchased an instyler about one year ago. I have extremely curly hair and its such a pain to straighten with a traditional flat iron. The instyler cuts down on my hair styling time tremendously. The spinning action against the bristles of the brush keep it straight and don't burn my scalp so that I may get as close to my roots as possible. It is most definately worth the investment. A great place to purchase a brand new instyler is on http://www.stootsi.com for under $60 and shipping is included in this price and it contains the same 3 year manufacturer's warranty.

The InStyler, although not cheap works very well. It straightens my hair to the point where it is feels so smooth, it seems like I just got it professionally straightened. My daughter loves how it straightens her hair. Her hair is on the thicker side, and the InStyler makes her hair very shiny and glossy. It does a great job.

Ah the instyler. I got it and I have mixed feelings about it. It is not as simple as they say, it takes some time to get used too it. I burned myself with it (probably more my fault... as I was trying to get used to handling it. However, I don't know how old your daughter is- but beware that when 'getting used' to handling the instyler she may burn herself if she is not REALLY careful... as with all hot hair styling items).

Long story short I retuned mine. It just wasn't the magical tool I was seeking. It didn't live up to the hype for me. I felt that buy using a really good blow dryer- an ionic, thermal, blah, blah one that dries hair in half the time, and using a really nice flat iron I got better results then using the intyler in about the same amount of time.

So I would buy the instyler at a place you can return it. That is key, at least it was for me. I bought mine at the Ulta store, and currently if you are on the ulta mailing list they have a 20% storewide coupon. So you could buy the Instyler for 99 and %20 off, and then if it wasn't a hit you could return it!

....Also, I've heard stories about knock off's being sold on ebay and such, so beware of that!

I have the instyler and I absolutely LOVE it! I have really course and very very thick hair and traditional flat irons did nothing but crush and burn my hair and never really got it strait. When I bought the instyler I was a skeptic at first that it would work like portrayed in the commercials but I was wrong. It works just like the commercial portrays and it is Very very easy to use. It comes with complete instructions on how to do certain styles so you will never be in the dark about how to get the full effect of this AMAZING flat iron. It makes me look and feel like I just stepped out of the salon every time I use It! I highly recommend this product!!!!

I haven't tried the InStyler myself but I would love to get one. I may be a good buy because they use this heat around the round part to straightnen your hair.   You can check out other reviews by going here:

Also, here's what Kerrie Troseth said on "Suite 101": http://beauty-products.suite101.com/article.cfm/product_review_of_the_instyler "Positives of the Instyle
  • Three temperature settings. The Instyler has different settings for various hair types. High is for thick, coarse hair and heats to 385 degrees; medium is for thin to medium-textured hair and heats to 315 degrees; and low is for fine, thin hair and heats to 285 degrees.
  • Several hair styling types can be produced. Users can style their hair by flipping out the ends, curling ends under, creating heighth or volume at the crown, spiral curls around the head, or even straightening hair like a flat iron.
  • Hair sets easier. The unique tool combines heat and rotation to set the hair and not burn it. It distributes the heat throughout the section of hair for true setting.

Negatives of the Instyler

  • Tricky to use. The Instyler is a bit bulky and requires good co-ordination. May cause burns if used improperly.
  • Only one size available. The barrel of the unit is large, so it will not work on very short hair lengths. It is very difficult to get to the root.
  • Noisy. When in use the Instyler has a buzzing type noise. The noise is not overwhelming, just a bit distracting.
  • Very expensive. The current infomericial sells a "two for one" deal, which is currently around $140."
I hope this can be helpful to you.
