There are so many companies that have great basic cell phone coverage and texting plans that you can pretty much paid which ever has the best signal in your area.  I'm partial to AT&T do to their nationwide coverage and affordable starter plans.  Depending on who you prefer you may be better served in your area with Alltel.  Since so many of these companies have now merged you should check out their individual websites.
