We have several GPS systems here at my home from Garmin and Tom Tom, neither one of these systems charge a fee. Now there are extras you can choose like real time traffic updates, these may be an extra monthly fee, but as for the straight GPS feature no monthly charge required.

They come preloaded with maps and you only pay to update them, which is a one time charge. My husbands '04 car has never been updated and we still get around with no problem! Good Luck!
