The biggest difference is that a cheaper dvd player has to have a near perfectly clear/clean disk to play consistantly, quality players are not quite as sensitive to that! So if you are a person that takes care of your dvd's, you can definatly get away with a cheaper player, that is what I have, and there have been no problems at all!   Walmart has a Magnavox DP player selling for $28.00
