We have sold many televisions over the years and have nothing good to say about the lesser expensive televisions - we have had the least amount of trouble with Sony, Panasonic, Mitsubishi, Toshiba and Sharp. The off brands do not hold up well and when anythign goes wrong it is hard to find anyone to service them.

If shopping for a plasma tv I would recommend spending a little more for a more reputable name. Some of the best names in Plasma's can be had for very reasonable amounts. Look up a TCP42X1 from Panasonic or a PN42B430 from Samsung. Both are excellent and well priced.

I agree with TracyLyn0923 do not get an Emerson TV! They are somewhat of an off-brand and are not very high quality. But when it comes to the TV you should get I don't agree with TracyLyn0923, both RCA and Proscan are not terribly great TV brands.
Personally for a good TV I would suggest either a Vizio (I really like them and we have several in our home which I love!) or a Sharp (we don't own any but I have heard good things about them and of the ones I have seen have pretty good picture)
I see you are shopping for a plasma, neither of these brands currently sell plasmas but LCDs last longer, are cheeper, thiner, use less energy, and in my opinion have a better picture. :-)
And, of course as TracyLyn0923 said said you need an HD source, you can get an HD signal over the air in most places, but we have Dish Network and I love it, it has a good picture and price.
Hope this helped :)

Comment by dylanwacker: This is a good TV but you may want to check out vizio.com for the newest and most up-to-date model. If you have a Costco membership buy it at Costco, if not buy it from the website. but whatever you do NEVER buy a TV from Wal-Mart, they make their suppliers use lower quality parts so the can keep the price down. Besides Costco tends to have lower prices anyway!

Comment by dylanwacker: As with the other one don't buy at Wal-Mart and check out vizio.com for possibly a newer model.

Comment by dylanwacker: I think with Vizio the picture is actually a little better, but if you prefer a Sharp here is a good one. They sell these at costco and online at sharp.com

Not really! Although the 42" does not have reviews, the 32" does, and they are not very good! One recent reviw:
"we bought this tv 10 days ago and it's already broken. it won't even turn on. i called the company's help site, and the nearest repair tech they could give me is 90 miles away. (and they claim their search will only reach a 30 mile radius.)"
another
"Bought it on black friday because of the price and now i wish i stayed in bed. The picture and sound quality is so so. Picture is grainy, even in HD. I was willing to sacrifice the quality since it was one for my bedroom. Now the TV only comes on when it wants to. Already got a new tv ordered and will never purchase a cheap one again! Nothing but a headache. Just spend the extra $50 to $75 and get the better TV."
So it seems most likely , it it is a bargain too good to be true! One that does have good reviews is the Proscan 40" which sells for $468.00!
