The latest from Sony, the KDL40XBR5 HDTV, is considered one of the best, according to Consumer Search, but Samsung's latest, the LNT4681F is no less excellent with their LED technology, and the LNT4681F also has the same 120hz frame rate as the Sony's.
Statistically their reliability record is very close but the Samsung is a little less expensive.
