Is it possible to purchase a professional grade steamer to use at home, if so , where would I buy one?

You can check out out Daimer for professional commercial products. You might want to also check out those you can rent from the grocery stores. They are pretty heavy duty and I imagine they sell them to get new ones in from time to time.
You might want to check out Craigslist for used equipment to purchase. Or check out some of the steam carpet cleaners for home use. They do work really well if you purchase a good one and follow the instructions. Especially pre-treating stains and how not to leave water marks. ; )
Not all carpets use steam for cleaning so be aware of using steam on certain fabrics like berber.
