Im defenetly going to get a new desktop or laptop. Im wondering if a laptop is really going to help me that much in college since I will be living at home.

 The bigger question would be what you were looking to do with your new computer. You will end up paying a lot more for a top of the line laptop then you would for a comparable desktop.

 A positive benfit for purchaseing a laptop is the portability. You can bring the laptop to class or to the library so you won't have to use the schools computers. A laptop also has wireless internet which can be used in most coffee shops and even in some cities.

 Some downfalls buying  for a laptop is you cannot upgrade easily. If you ever looking to run programs that are graphics or memory intensive you might not to be able to run them without spending alot more then what you would spend on a desktop. For that price you could purchase a desktop and a netbook for portability.

 So unless you are looking for portability I would personally would purchase a desktop.

If you are going to live at home you can also consider buying a desktop. It all depends of what you like and of the space you have in the room.
