I saw an advertisement for a steam ball to place in the dryer onT.V. I was wondering if this product would give good results. I know some of the wash machines incorporate this in their newer models. I am not ready to purchase one since mine is only four years old. The prduct is called MR. Steamy. Please advise.

I realize that this is a pretty old thread, but I wanted to address a number of comments on this page for others considering this product: water does not need to be boiling to produce steam. If you doubt this, take a nice hot shower when your bathroom is reasonably cool...when you step out you'll see lots of evidence of steam in your bathroom...and I feel VERYconfident saying your shower water tempurature isn't even close to boiling! (usually runs between 105 - 120 degrees F) :-)
Simply said, this product WILL increase the level of water vapor in your dryer if you're drying already dry clothes, which can help remove wrinkles. Gauging from the reviews of people who have actually used the product, your results will be a mixed bag, though...I don't think I'm ready to spend $20+ on a product that may work under a set of special conditions (right fabric type, phase of the moon, etc.)--especially since the damp rag idea provided by other reviewers will work almost exactly the same and not affect noise levels at all.

I tried this ball in my dryer, I was not very happy with the results. It sounded very loud in the dryer, and still left many wrinkles on the clothes. To me this would be a waste of my money. To get the wrinkles out of most of my clothes I just put in a damp cloth. Hope this helps.

It's good that you haven't purchased one yet. Don't ever drop your $19:99 on that product. I searched for reviews. Here are some of them:
moe terry says: August 23, 2010 at 6:48 pm
I complained previously about being billed $68.00 for a double order that was supposed to be 19.95 plus shipping. Their customer service person told me this charge was correct, after arguing over this I finally hung up on her. Several weeks later I did receive a $25.00 credit on my credit card however this still means I was billed $42.00 for a order that was suppose to be $19.95, buyer beware. I still think they are a scam outfit.
Bill says: July 19, 2010 at 10:37 pm I bought a pair of Mister Steamy Dryer Balls through Publisher’s Clearing House for $21 and change instead of $34 that some people paid. I followed the instructions and they did work. The down side is I do about 7 loads of laundry once a week, and less than a month, the sponge inside the balls dried out and deteriorated and came apart in the dryer getting all over my clothes. I complained to PCH and they sent me a replacement pair at no cost because they did not last 3-5 months like the instructions said they would. I only used the replacement pair 1 day for my weekly laundry and I can tell that they will dry out and deteriorate again and get all over my clothes in the dryer. This is a bad product and I am contacting PCH again. Very disappointed with this product. My dryer is not extra hot either. I hope this link can help:

I have also found a very few positive reviews: Here is one:
I work in a smoky environment so I bought it to see if it would make my clothes smell fresh without having to wash them every time. I’m pleasantly surprised. I throw in a shirt and a pair of pants with the Fresh Shots and in 20 minutes there is no smell. I really recommend this dog toy! It helps get out the wrinkles too I guess, but the smell removal is amazing! Plus, I am doing less laundry every week so that has to save some money! http://www.asseenontvpromo.com/clothing-and-apparel/mister-steamy/

Save your money. Mr. Steamy is just one in a long list of TV advertised products that say you can't live without them, but the truth be known, you don't have enough storage room in your home now. Don't waste that space on this product. First of all a clothes dryer doesn't get hot enough to turn the water into steam, and secondly if you take your clothes out of the dryer after they are done, you won't need this product, and thirdly -- if you don't take your clothes out and you got wrinkles, just toss in a wet wash cloth and get the same results as a Mr. Steamy. I hope this helps.

Whether or not Mr. Steamy actually works is not my issue. The website tells you that you get "Two for the Price of One"- what you do not see unless you go to the very bottom of the page is that you also pay TWO shipping and handling charges - nearly $14.
Within 5 minutes after ordering I sent an email to cancel - Customer Service being closed on weekends. When I telephoned on the Monday I was told that "unfortunately" the people who get the emails are a different department from the people who cancel the order and my order had already shipped!
So- even though I will return the item for a refund, I will be stuck paying the shipping and handling which is no doubt the real cost of the item anyway.
If you want TWO of these - and if you want to pay $6.99 EACH to receive them, go right ahead and order them. I kick myself for not reading every inch of the page and discovering the total rip-off before I ordered.
AND - I do not believe that they shipped my order first thing Monday morning - these sites are notorious for very long delivery dates.

An old trick to getting the wrinkles out of clothes that were left in the dryer too long, is to throw in a wet wash cloth and turn on the dryer for a short time. I was curious as to whether or not this Mr. Steamy actually produced steam so I did a little research online. Dryers have a standard setting in the industry of 75c degrees which converts to 167f degrees. At sea level water turns into steam at boiling temperature of 212f degrees. The highest a dryer have reach is 90c degrees which is 195f degrees. Assuming of course that the dryer lint trap, and exhaust are not blocked or that the dryer is malfunctioning a clothes dryer will not reach a temperature high enough to turn the water into steam. At best what you have with a Mr. Steamy is a wet wash cloth that you paid good money for. Of course then again it could be a good pet toy too.

This is the worst purchase ever. First off I think they charged shipping to go around the world then to my house. Second: It's useless!!!!!!! Dry or wet clothing or bed sheets and they come out the same with or with out the green mr. steamy miracle. I think this company should have worked on this product and make it a dog chew toy. I think it will have more use for it.

This product is for dry clothes! All the comments about adding to wet laundry seem ridiculous.
Ever want to freshen something up or forget to empty the dryer right away? That would be a Mr. Steamy chore.

I don't see how this can produce steam. Average dryer temperature is 130 to 150 F. No where near hot enough to produce steam.

I bought a Mister Steamy and I have no buyer's remorse. Double dipping on the shipping was a bit too much, but as for it working I think it's great. I have been using Mister Steamy in two ways.
1) If I space it and forget my clothes in the dryer ( I do a lot!) I thrown Mister Steamy in, filled up with water, and hit high heat for 20 min. It really helps. I hate rewashing just for wrinkles and ironing sucks.
2) I use Fresh Shots with my smelly clothes. I have experimented with this. I take my nurses uniform and throw it in the dryer with Mister Steamy. I fill it up with water and Fresh Shots. It removes the odor completely and helps with wrinkles. I love it. Need more Fresh Shots but can't find any refills!!!!!
I give Mister Steamy an B+, but doesn't work on dress shirts. You still need a dry cleaner! HaHa

Everyone on here is not very intelligent, because they do not even understand the concept of the Mister Steamy! It is not like other dryer balls used for fluffing clothes. It is supposed to be filled with water and added to a dryer with DRY clothing, the ball then is supposed to release STEAM (which is why is it called MISTER STEAMY!). The steam then releases the wrinkles in the clothing. At least this is the claim! I would like to know from anyone who bought this if it actually works? I would assume you can add it to a load of wet clothing and not add water to use it as a fluffing device as well. But it does not take a rocket scientist to know how/what this is for. Just read and watch the commercial. Self explainatory! Just please let me know if it works as advertised.

One thing many that have answered on this failed to remember is that you use this on dry clothes that are wrinkled. I have ordered this because I understand the concept and can see where it will work using the steam to remove hard wrinkles from all kinds of materials. I know everyone has had times when they didn't get their clothes out of the dryer before they cooled down so the ones that aren't non wrinkled type materials are thoroughly wrinkled and need ironing. The steam balls should work in smoothing them out well without the work. So again, it is used on DRY clothes!
pickemtowin commented on answer:
"I used it on a dray clothes and got no results. This product is a crock of crap. I have a brand new very expensive dryer. I put in one dress shirt, filled the Mr.Steamy with the exact amount of required water and got no results. I don't believe the dryer gets hot enough to produce steam. The demo on television is misleading, inaccurate and they should be shut-down! This is probably done by the same guy that has been selling the bogus mail enhancement products."
I have heard of these things :) I've been wondering the same thing myself. There are many mixed reviews on it. Now I suppose they are using Mr. Steamy as an alternative to dryer sheets since it has been said that they are bad for the dryer. Now the price in my opinon is kinda steep $20 plus shipping and handling when you can get the same results by putting new tennis balls in the dryer. These are made with PVC which do contain contaminating factors that would get on your clothes and if you have children it may not be something that would be desired. Unfortunately there are quite a few dryer balls that use PVC. For the same price you can purchase Nelli's PVC free dryer balls for $19.95. Hope this helps you in your decision making :). Thanks for visiting IMshopping and have a great day!

There is a decent alternative to Mr. Steamy. Since the clothes are already damp when you put them in the dryer, from the washer, you can just add dryer balls. These do not add additional moisture so the drying time is not extended (something that using Mr. Steamy would have to do since there's more moisture for your dryer to handle)
The down side of dryer balls is that you can only use them on durable fabrics. They do work well on towels, sheets, jeans and durable press items. I would not recommend use on dress shirts or thinner knit items. No matter how "soft" the dryer balls feel, they are beating on your clothes in the dryer. You'll hear thew noise and wonder! I've used these a few times and they are fine on sheets and jeans as long as your dryer is not too full.
Don't expect either product to eliminate your need for ironing! Those cotton shirts and items you want to look crisp will still require the touch of an iron.

With dryers today you really can get wrinkle free clothes if you take them out right away. I don't iron my work uniforms, I just take them out of the dryer as soon as the dryer is turned off do a quick press on my pants with my hand and hang up right away. It does come with a money back guarantee, so if you are doubting as I am, you can try them, then if you are not completely satisfied, you can get a refund. I came across several sites that sell them but did not come across any reviews.
It says just ad water, but if you just need water, why are they giving you 2 bottles of Fresh Shot and what is in Fresh shot?

Thank you for your question. This is called the Mister Steamy and one great invention! It is made to work like the new Steam Dryers without having to purchase a new dryer. How it works is you just add water and as your dryer heats up it releases steam and keeps wrinkles out of your clothes. They will also make your clothes fluffier.
As far as reviews goes there is mixed reviews. None say they don't work but same say they have seen the same concept to put two dry tennis balls in your dryer and not overload your dryer and they will come out as wrinkle free as the Mister Steamy.
I think they are a good price on some Website's if someone wanted to try one. The Mister Steamy site offers them for 19.99 and you get two of them. I plan to give it a try as I also can not buy a new dryer at this time. I think the concept of steam is awesome.
Hope this helps you decide on whether or not you would like to purchase. Happy 2010 and thank you from your ImShopping Guide.

Honestly, I'm confused how a ball full of water would work when clothes are already damp anyway. Might just be me but I have hard time paying $19.95 to toss something in my dryer.
From every review I read they are made from PVC which contains contaminants I may not want on my clothing and no one that reviewed found any difference in reduced drying time or wrinkles.
It appears that just running the last few minutes on fluff or pulling your clothes right out work just as well.
