I just got a new dishwasher and I've always used gel for it but the guy who installed it said the dry stuff works better. What do you guys think and anyone know the best way to clean your dishwasher besides clr? thanks.

With my dishwasher, I always use the gel as well!  I did try the dry one time, and just like with the dry laundry soap, it left residue and almost like "crust" all over the dishes, it was horrble, i had to rinse everything off anyways! So definately stick with the gel!  As for cleaning, what I personally do is take a sponge, and make a solution of 1/2 cup of clorox and 1 cup warm water, wipe everything down , just a quick washover will do, next take a cup or bowl that is dishwasher safe, filled with plain white vinegar on the top rack of the dishwasher. Using the hottest water available, run the dishwasher through a cycle - except for the cup of vinegar, the dishwasher needs to be empty.
The vinegar will help to wash away the loose, greasy grime, sanitizes, and helps remove the musty odor!
Baking soda is also effective at freshening and brightening your dishwasher. Just sprinkle a cupful around the bottom of the tub and run it through a short but complete cycle using the hottest water. Baking soda is also helpful in removing stains.
