I am planning a surprise 50th year birthday party for my boyfriend of 10 years. I want most of the things such as napkins match books etc. personalized, as well as some of the door prizes.Im thinking about going with gold, black, and silver, with clear christmas lights for the decorations along with a few other table decorations in silver.. There is a gift theme which is the bar room. I have a menu that consist of meat balls, hamburger dip, B.B.Q, veggie trays, shrimp platters, chicken wings, deviled eggs, tuna salad, pasta salad, finger sandwiches, salmon loafs, spinach dip, cheese balls, chicken salad, and meat trays, along with some fruit trays. I wanted to give numbers at the door and every 30 minutes or so draw a number and give out tokens of appreciation such as personalized shot glasses that say Johnnie Thomas' 50th Birthday 2011. I need some other fun and memorable thing's to do. Do you think that this is too much and too wide of a variety of thing's?

I like the variety of food and the door prize idea, very creative. As far as the colors are concerned most people find black and gold very attractive. If you wanted silver perhaps consider using just silver and gold.
There is a fine balance between decorating and being festive and going over board. try to invision the items you purchase and how they wil fit in the area you are using.
Hope this helps
