I am looking for a pre-paid cell phone. Tracfone with a phone and double your minutes for life looks promising. Is this really a good deal in comparison with other pre-paid plans? I was thinking of getting one for me and as a gift. Any comments are welcomed.

If you use the tracfone very much at all...it gets really expensive.  You might want to check on many of the unlimited plans that are out there now at really reasonable rates.

I had a tracfone, it was my very first prepaid phone, and honestly, you go through minutes very quickly! if you accidently hit the send button, even if you don't connect, you still lose a minute.  There is no mobile to mobile free minutes.  I have also tried cingulair, verizon and Boost.  I find Boost the best deal.  I have the monthly unlimited plan, it costs me $50 a month for unlimited minutes, unlimited texts and internet.  there are ABSOLUTELY NO EXTRA FEES.  if you miss your payment, they don't charge you extra money to turn it back on, its $50 flat that's it!

Tracfone does offer a pretty good deal, and I have heard some pretty good things about it. There are other great phone companies out there offering great deals as well.

With AT$T you buy the Nokia 2610 Go Phone for $29.99 and you get $15.99 of free air time. This phone also works with any AT&T SIM card, so if you have a contract with them and your phone breaks, you can buy this one instead of spending hundreds of dollars on another phone. Boost Mobile is another great companie. With Boost Mobile you can buy and phone you want and then pay $50 a month and get unlmited talk time, unlimited text, and unlimited web. You won't find that anywhere else, and the best part is, you don't ever have to sign a contract with them!
