There's nothing better than homemade ice cream.  My family doesn't eat a lot of ice cream so we never have it on hand when the urge to splurge arises.  I've actually been considering investing in a small ice cream maker for a family Christmas gift myself!

I found a few affordable models for you that you may enjoy that have gotten rave reviews from the people that purchased them.  Nothing is worse than getting your new appliance just to find out it's a dud after all!

The first one I included is actually an attachment for a KitchenAid mixer.  Those folks are dependable and ingenious when it comes to gadgets you can add on to their mixers.  It has a 2 quart prefreeze bowl that fits right on the stand.  The one complaint about this particular product is that the ice cream tends to come out airy, but some people enjoy the lighter texture!

Cuisinart also offers a 1-1/2 quart ice cream maker at an affordable price of $46.25.  It is fully automatic and does not require ice, but the freezing chamber has to be prefrozen in the freezer before use.

I personally like the Aroma 4 quart Traditional Ice Cream Maker from Walmart.  It has a cute and old timey design, it can also be used as an automatic ice cream machine or if you're in the mood to teach your kids the value of hardwork you can use it as a crank machine!

The vast majority of ice cream makers are going to require some sort of prefreezing before you can use them, but I did manage to find one that doesn't from Koolatron.  It's a bit more of an investment but the lack of a freezing chamber will allow you to make icecream when the mood strikes.  I will mention though, that this machine average about 2.5 stars from reviewers instead of 4.5 as the ones above did.

Best of luck on your search for the perfect ice cream machine, and I hope to have been of help!

I am a huge fan of ice cream. I really enjoy making it myself and sharing it with my family. It is great to be able to add the exact ingredients you want. I have tried several brands over the years with good success, but my favorite was the Cuisinart Ice-20. It is easy use, it cleans up easily, it also shuts off automatically, and to top it all of it is affordable. It can be found on http://www.chefscatalog.com http://www.amazon.com and bay.com.

I'm also going to share a couple other brands that have worked well for me in the past. I hope you find the perfect fit for your family. Rival GC9155 Ice cream Maker - $27.99, it has a  handy built-in scoop which makes it easy to add your favorite ingredients during the process. http://www.ecost.com Hamilton Beach 68330 4 quart ice cream maker - $25.99, it has fully automatic operation--no labor-intensive stirring required. http://www.amazon.com
