Thank you for allowing IM Shopping to assist you in locating the best possible bike for a beginner cruising biker.
For the beginner motor cyclists you do not want to start on any bike with an engine larger than the 350cc to 650cc range. This will give you effective pick up and go without being to much to handle until you are able to graduate to something larger.
Another thing to look at is the drive shaft. Make sure that when you purchase your 350cc you are purchasing one that is not a chain drive. They require a lot of maintenance and time in order to keep it running. Either a belt or drive shaft are more effective. I've included some suggestions that you should find helpful.

Each of the above should prove to be a good guide while searching for your new motorcycle. Moving up to a sportster requires experience to avoid laying it down. With the high end pricing of a sportster it is often advisable to begin with a good used bike and then upgrade to the sporster once there is sufficient experience handling a motorcycle.
