How would i know if the modem is online or not?

Usually All Modems have a little green light on when is connected under DSL, if is not connected the light will be red or orange. You can also go to control panel and click on network you should have something like view network status and that should tell you if is connected.
There is a special button on your modem, usually it is blinking or flashing really fast. This is just one of the ways to tell if your modem is online. You can check your internet too. If you can get online then yes, your modem is online also. Modems are known for quitting all of sudden. Sometimes even a weather storm can knock it offline. To get back online, restart your modem. It should come back on with no problems. If it doesn't it is time to look into a new modem. They have good ones out there for great prices now days. I hope this helps you.
