According to http://www.crutchfield.com, a website that's not only great for purchasing items but also for instructions to connect them once you do buy them, there are four ways you can use your ipod in your car.
They are iPod adapters, auxiliary input adapters, FM modulators, and cassette adapters. Since you don't want an FM modulator, it sounds like your best bet is an iPod adapter. According to crutchfield, this method brings the best sound. There are two types of adapters that are designed specifically for connecting your iPod to your car stereo: factory stereo adapters and brand-namestereo adapters. The former type connects your iPod to the stereo that came with your car, while the latter connects your iPod to a brand-name(or aftermarket) stereo.
I've added a link below that will give you complete instructions for doing this. If you are good at stereo installation, you can probably do this. But if you aren't, I'd suggest taking your vehicle to a professional.
If you don't want to do all these steps, I assure you, an FM broadcaster works really well. I use one every day.
I've also added some installation products you'll need, including a power source, a mounting device so your iPod doesn't bounce around your car, and the mounting kit.
