The other day I was surfing the internet and stumbled across an advertisement for the OOKISA hair products.  The advertisement stated it regrows hair, so of course I had to immediately inspect it. I quickly clicked on to the link and was taken to the OOKISA website. I was greeted by the little cartoon above, which I have to admit, is super cute. In fact it actually is a little animation, and her hair goes from short to long on a loop. I want to preface this post by saying I am not trying to attack the product, but I have some serious issues with the claims they are making on their website. I have no issue with the hair volumizing, extra shine claims, I definitely think that is possible with a really nice shampoo, but hair growth?
Their website states the following, “In addition, these ingredients improved hair flexibility, enhanced moisture retention and stimulated key factors involved with the growth of new hair. This resulted in an overall youthful appearance to hair.” What are the key factors? I searched the product list and found a: “Fortifying Shampoo” which the company states “powerfully cleanses and removes polluting and clogging substances that damage hair and keep you from achieving optimum hair thickness.” Contrary to what some may believe, clogged pores do not cause hair loss. Having said, that it is nice to be squeaky clean, so okay I’ll bite, and say this may be a nice quality shampoo for having clean hair. They also offer a “Replenishing Conditioner” which states “moisturizes hair and is lightweight,” big plus for thin hair gals, but still haven’t seem the active growing agent. I spot a  “Instant Volumizing Souffle” which I admit sounds quite tantalizing to my follicles. Do I put it on my head or eat it? I love soufflé! And lastly my eyes rested on the “Nighttime Follicle Renewal Serum” product. EUREKA! The site states “This formula not only prevents thinning, loss and splitting.” Wow it does more..? A few lines down I read that it actually “Anchors hair to the scalp.” What? How does it do that? Krazy glue? Because let me tell you, at this point the only thing that probably will keep my hair in my head is a little help from Elmer’s or the Krazy glue folks. I am certainly going to need more than a water lily or some white peony tea.  They are really making some big claims. I didn’t see minoxidil listed anywhere in any of the ingredient lists. Minoxidil is the only FDA approved topical product that can actually regrow hair. I have to give them credit for a beautifully done website, with flowers growing out of their bottles and hair growing on a cartoon, it appears quite sophisticated, but they failed to tell the reader what is “IN” the products that are the “key factors involved with the growth of new hair.” Point it out! Is it the “Fragrance (Parfum)” ? Inquiring minds want to know. We are a bunch of antsy hair loss women.  Less flowers more facts! The product in and of itself probably is a nice shampoo/ conditioner / volumizer combo, and I’d have no qualms about using it myself for those things. But the turn off for me is the claims of helping to stop hair loss. Don’t use this as a marketing tool, it is a serious issue. Stick with what the product is, or provide the active ingredient that actually grows hair. Their gallery offers no before and after pictures, which I would think if you were going to makes such claims you would back it up with a little visual evidence. Although, with technology today pictures can be doctored up, so you can’t really trust those either. If you do decide to visit the site, spare yourself, don’t click on the “gallery” link. I almost had dry heaves looking at all the gorgeous beautiful hair.

In short, there is absolutely no product what so ever that will make your hair grow in thicker!  All you can do is put volumizing products on your hair while styling!  I recommend the Matrix Amplify line, I have used it in the past and it is an excellent product!
