Does the GPS come with the current maps I need in my country or do I need to download/pay for the newest ones? Are there any recurring fees involved in geting a GPS or is it ready to go out of the box with no additional cost?

Depending on what model you buy and how current the unit is when you buy it, you may need to download the most current maps, this is normally a free service the first time around .After the initial update there is a charge for the new maps. There are no recurring fees involved in getting a GPS unless you choose to have the additional service of having current traffic conditions updated to you unit. With this service you are advised of road conditions ahead on your route and given alternate options. Your GPS should be ready to work right out of the box unless it needs the batteries charged.
I have used the Garmin Nuvi350 and found it very reliable. I hope this helps, Good Luck!
