When I started out with a cell phone I had a prepaid Trac phone which is ok if you only plan on not using it much. Then I had the Cingular prepaid which was good and my minutes rolled over.

Now they have other companies such as Boost mobile which I would strongly suggest as the offer an unlimited plan for $50 dollars a month and phones start out at $49.99.
