Hey yo!
Thanks for your question!
Since your looking for a rather decent gaming laptop you're going to want something like Alienware: known for it's rugged look and customizable features. Many of the other gaming laptops look like regular laptops for the most part but Alienware REALLY stands out. If you want more freedom in design then a gaming desktop is by far the way to go.
Now my question is what games are you thinking of playing? You know Star Craft just came out the other day (w00t!) and of course there is WoW and Sims (if you're into that). Also, a good laptop that is capable of taking on any game is going to run you at least $900. Also many of the gaming laptops coming to market today will run Windows 7. Understand that some other products you may buy as peripherals may not support Windows 7 so be sure to read such things (including memory cards) before you purchase.
On to the games! So Alienware M11x is a cool laptop and they have since been updated with the beautiful processors by Intel (not too fond of AMD really). It's the cheapest in the Alienware series though. You can buy the laptops with their previous processors installed but...why go for a past generation computer? Plus the M11x previously only had a dual core processor. Now it comes with the i7. Yes, it is the best AND it's Quad core. >:] Not to mention but I can't help it these chips are also overclockable. Be sure to read that when going in to customize.
I recommend the M11x since it comes standard with the i7 and starts off cheaper than the rest BUT the screen size is only 11.6 inches. If you're looking for bigger is better than check out the other two. Also when customizing pay attention to which processor you get the M15x starts off standard with the i3. I think it's a serious wrong to even consider an i3 on a serious gaming computer. If you want an i3 processor then be sure to check out the lower end laptops for under $500 even. Shoot for at least an i5 processor but if you're looking to spend that $1000+ go with i7! Understand that if the laptops still have the Intel Core 2 Duo Extreme or Quad these can get you some good playing time as well. ibuypower and widowpc both have means of customizing gaming platforms if you want to check those out. But if you really want an ease of purchase then stick with Dell. They have great customer support.
I hope this helps!
