Do I really need a hardrive for xbox 360 because I just want to play games?

No, but you'll need a memory card or USB flashdrive to save your games. 360 Arcade (the ones that don't have a HDD) comes with a memory card.

The only reason you would need a hard drive is for downloading demos and games on to it from xbox live.
