Where can I find a dining room table that is 36 inches wide but can fit 10 people?

I have sold furniture for years, and I have to tell you that seating for 10-12 is very common and doable,  bu the 36in wide requirement is a little tougher. This is not standard, but definitely does not mean it can't be done. There are many places out there that will make you beautiful custom pieces that specifically meet your needs, it just depends if you are willing to pay for it :)  The good thing is if you go this route you will be able to choose the finishes and styles you want along with the dimensions, and you will have a table that will last a lifetime and beyond. What a great hierloom to pass through the generations. Here are few companies that I am familiar with and their work is superb. I hope you find just what you're looking for.

They can custom make exactly what you want. Also, if you pay by check you get an extra 3% off. Additionally, I purchased my dining room set from them and was able to get 4 (yes four) additional leaves with the table that are self storaged within the table itself! So my table fit from 6-16 people depending on the leaves I put out.
I had a great experience. The table is 100% wood which you will rarely find these days in stores. I was able to choose the fabric that went on the chairs, the wood type and the stain.

The best table that I was able to find for your situation is a 72" long table that is 36" wide. The extra length of this table will be able to accomadate more people. I also suggest that you use bench seating such as this. Bench seating will be more comfortable for 10 people and will eliminate the akwardness of trying to push 10 chairs under the table! It will also help when trying to run the vacuum. Can you imagine vacuuming around 10 chairs? Yikes!

My advice would be to try Ikea or Pottery Barn for an adjustable table.  I have a friend who bought hers at IKEA and she can fit 10-12 people at it and it is oak or maple I believe.  Another great option is having a local craftsman make you an extra long table.  It really is not as expensive as you might think. 

This was harder to find than I expected! You can get a custom table made at Amish reflections. You would need to contact them to select wood, finish and actual size. Their items are all meticulously handcrafted from solid wood and designed to be lovely, functional and long lasting.


Overstock has a table that might meet your needs, but it would be a tight fit, the Merlot table with butterfly leaf. I found two tables that are just 2 inches wider (I wasn't sure if you had a bit of wiggle room in the size) The Pottery Barn table is designed to expand to seat 10 very comfortably (Their furniture is well made and lovely!). The Zocalo Madison Dining table also comes in at 38" but I included it for you to consider.

The Danish Teak table does meet your measurement requirements. We have a teak table and absolutely love it! The wood is solid and the grain is lovely. It just takes oiling to keep it glossy and clean! Table is a bit lower than the other ones so you would need to make sure you can get chairs to match.   Hope this helps you seat 10 and enjoy a meal together!
