There are 5 different kinds of diamond cuts that you want to look at. There is the brillant, princess, emerald cut, marquise, and heart shape cut. .5 to 1 Carat diamond is perfect.
The brilliant cut diamond has a round shape and is traditionally the most popular diamond shape in diamond engagement rings. The brilliant cut diamond, when it is cut to the best ideal proportions, will give a stunning sparkle.
Princess cut diamonds have a square shape. Princess cut diamond engagement rings are often made in the prong setting style. A bezel setting and bar settings are also possible.
Emerald cut diamonds have a rectangular shape. An emerald cut diamond  has a lovely radiance that can be described as elegant. The emerald cut diamond does not reflect as much light as a princess cut diamond due to the way that the diamond facets are cut.Emerald cut diamonds are normally set vertically along the finger. A prong setting style is most popular for this diamond cut. A bezel setting is also possible with an emerald cut diamond engagement ring. An emerald cut diamond is classified as a type of fancy cut diamond. A marquise cut diamond has a curved shape which meets at two points at either end of the diamond. The proportions of a marquise cut diamond can vary from diamond to diamond, with some marquise cut diamonds being wider across the middle than others. Marquise cut diamonds are usually set vertically along the finger, though they can also be set in a horizontal position across the finger. Very Classy!
A heart cut diamond is the romantic choice. The diamond is normally set in a prong setting and is classified as a type of fancy cut diamond. Two I recomment are the Marquise .40. The marquise cut diamond is as elegant today as it was when it was first created centuries ago. This brilliant .40 carat marquise cut diamond solitaire is secured in a 4 prong setting that will keep it safe   My favorite is the Princess cut ring. This genuine 1/2 Carat Princess Cut Diamond Solitaire Ring in 14K White Gold is simply stunning; a gorgeous engagement ring to enjoy for a lifetime. Beaming with I-J color and I2 to I3 clarity, this brilliant solitaire is the centerpiece of a 4-prong white gold setting. An elegant 14K white gold band accents the dazzling diamond.

Hi there,

It depends on what kind of setting you prefer for the engagement ring. For Channel Set, I prefer princess cut diamonds. It fills every space in it so it looks nice. For Prong Set,  would definitely go for round diamonds 'cause it keeps the diamond tight prevent possible loss. Overall, my best choice would be Baguette diamonds, they just look great but keep it in your mind it should be with proper setting.

Diamond Shapes:  There are various types of cut & shapes you can choose for your engagement ring. Usually, round diamond is most preferable choice for an engagement ring. The other shapes like princess, marquise, emerald, and cushion are desirable for engagement rings.

However, the selection of diamond for an engagement ring would vary the type setting you would prefer to be in your engagement ring. The cut of a diamond shows the sparkle and brilliance of the stone that would reflect through the types of setting you have chosen for the ring.

I would recommend you to go for round diamond with prong setting as it would give maximum brilliance the stone has because setting gives more space for light rays to travel across the ring.

Alot of women prefer a Princess cute diamond which is a square shaped diamond. I prefer a round cut diamond because it tends to sparkle more with the way they cute it. All the angles catch light and really grab the diamonds attention. Here are some beautiful engagment rings.
