it doesn't make very much noise. It has a fan. We have two macs in our home. My Mom's Mac Mini and my iMac. My iMac makes less noise then the mac mini but both are very quiet compared to my dad's two laptop PCs. The mac mini make basically no noise unless you are putting tons of strain on it. This is a really good computer! You need a monitor, keyboard and mouse just incase you didn't know. We just bought a cheap monitor from Frys and we already had the keyboard and mouse. You will probably need a Display-port to RGB converter if you don't use an Apple monitor. We use one.
