The best way to clean linoleum floors depends on the size and the type of room. Kitchen floors need cleaning every week or when spills occur. The bathroom floors can go for two to three weeks depending on the traffic that is in this room. Even though there are several methods in cleaning a floor, the best method takes at least an hour to complete.
Linoleum floors collect dirt, grime and food particles. When you have children or pets, the floor can make them sick if you do not clean it properly. When they run through the home with dirty shoes or paws, washing the floor daily is a requirement. Cleaning this type of floor after spills is important for the safety of your family. However, you should thoroughly clean your linoleum floor at least once a week for proper maintenance.
Choose a cleaning solution of your choice. Read all directions, as they may differ. Vacuum your linoleum floor. Use the hose to get underneath your cabinets, next to your refrigerator and behind any appliances. Pore a cap full of cleaner or spray the part of the floor where you are starting. Run hot water in the sink or a bucket. Get your mop damp but not soaking wet. Run the mop over the area where the cleaner is. Repeat until the entire floor is clean. Let dry, then use your scrub brush where needed. Add a dab of cleaner to the dried-on particles or any mess missed by the mop. Then scrub the area to relieve the mess. Let dry. Then vacuum again. You will have a lasting shine.

- The kind of cleaning supplies you should use are a vacuum, mop and a scrub brush. Brooms do not always pick up small dust particles on your bare floors. Vacuums are handy when it comes to small objects that move easily when you are trying to sweep. Mops may not clean your linoleum floors as well as you would like. A combination of a mop and scrub brush can relieve the floor of dirt and dried-on food.

Warning
- Check the cleaning product for abrasive material. If you use rough cleaning solutions, you may damage the floor or scratch it. In addition, your scrub brush should be a soft bristle. This will allow you to pull up the dried-on particles but will not damage your floor. Any soft mop will do. If you use a foam mop, change the foam frequently to keep it clean and manageable.
