Potty training is never easy for any child. It is sucha adull tedous task. So why not make it much more fun and alot easier.
The first place to start is with a fun potty chair. Your child will be begging to go to the potty if it interacts with them.
http://www.walmart.com has several potties like this as do many other site. One in particular that I found that you may like its the:
Safety 1st - Jack Potty Training Seat $25.00
The Jack Potty provides a fun and interactive potty training experience. The sensor technology detects a deposit and triggers lights and sounds for fun and encouragement.
One thing that my mom has found to be very fun and entertaining is to put a sticker on the bottomof the toilet bowl so that its visible to the child. Use this sticker as a "target" for your son to aim for. Cheerios work jsut as well.
Another trick is to reward him for going to the potty. A freeze pop or some other special snack if he goes to the pottyor stays dry all day.
http://www.toysrus.com has a fun book you may watn to look a for your son.

There are a lot of toys and activites on the market right now aimed at helping frazzled parents potty train. I used Seasme Street products with my son because he totally admired Elmo. But, I must say the most effective technique I used cost me less than a penny each.
CHEERIOS. I would toss 6 or 7 in the toilet and tell my son to "Aim" at them. He had soooooo much fun! I would make litlle shooting noises and when he hit a cheerio I would make an explosion sound. It made the whole process easier on both of us.
Good Luck!
