Hello!
Well first I will preference this by saying that they are both lovely options, and that your personal style may be a little different than mine. Also I was not sure which body style and specific year you are looking at. So I used sedan style bodies in years ranging from 2003-2010.
For my money, I'd go with the Audi if fuel factor is an issue. They also are not as expensive if you are purchasing one new, in fact about 10k less than the BMW. For future resale value the Audi is obviously less than the BMW, but its not that far behind($3K difference after 3 years!), that means the BMW will lose value more quickly than the Audi. Plus, with both of them being German built, they will both equally cost outrageous amounts to fix if ever there is a serious problem. So to summarize, For best fuel economy, price when new, and decent resale pricing. I'd chose the Audi.
Have fun in your new ride! : )
