The Camera Professionals: Who should you get camera advice from?

images from camera professionalsIf you are considering a new digital camera, or your first digital camera, you might consult with a camera professional to get some advice on which digital camera is the best. But who do you consider to be the camera professionals? People who sell cameras might be considered camera professionals, but are they going to tell you that you don’t need a high resolution camera that costs $800? That’s not likely.

Professional photographers can also be considered the camera professionals, but they aren’t selling anything. The camera professionals you will find in this group may tell you what kind of camera they use in order to get high quality, professional digital photos. And you can bet they spent even more money for their cameras than the camera professionals at the local consumer electronic retailer will try to sell you. You pretty much need to find a professional camera store to get the kinds of cameras the camera professionals in this group might suggest.

Did you ever consider asking an amateur photography enthusiast about digital cameras? Sure, they may not be placed into the category of “the camera professionals” they are the people who know how to get a great photo with a less expensive camera. These are the camera professionals who can suggest a camera that you will be happy with for years to come without breaking the bank.

Here’s what the camera professionals, the real ones, don’t want you to know. More megapixels are not necessary for a great photo! You can take professional looking photos with a 4 or 5 megapixel camera, and the photos store easily on your hard drive. The more megapixels you have, the larger the file is for each photo because, well, there are more pixels in them. Unless you will be taking photos for advertising billboards, you probably don’t need more than 6 megapixels, and 4 or 5 are just fine for amateur photography.

The photograph below was taken with a 5 megapixel Canon Powershot A530. It’s not the newest camera on the market, but it has certainly served well for more than two years and the photographer has no need, or desire for more resolution. The point is, no matter what the camera professionals try to convince you into buying, get what you can afford. A good digital camera that takes outstanding photographs no longer has to cost you an arm and a leg.
