Starting Your Holiday Tech Shopping Early
Now that the Holiday shopping season is upon us, it’s time to…what should I buy everyone for Christmas? You thought you had a few more weeks to kill before you had to even start thinking about gift buying, long lines, and spending your savings? If you don’t act now you may be missing out on some of the best bargains available.
Every year it seems the holiday shopping season gets moved up sooner. This year several retailers, both online and off, started their pre-Christmas season pushes in August. For the most part, however, many seasonal deals started to appear in full force the day after Halloween. The days of waiting till after Thanksgiving are so much a part of the past.
So, in honor of left over turkey sandwiches, pine needles littering the floor, festivals of light and quick kisses under the mistletoe, I’m going to give you a brief guide in getting the jump on cool holiday tech deals that won’t put you in the poor house come January 1st.
The most important basic tips to holiday shopping are:
- Start early. You need to get the jump on all the hot discount electronic deals such as the Wii Fit as soon as possible on or immediately after all the Halloween candy has been handed out.
- Make Black Friday sales and Cyber Monday deals your new favorite times of the year and hunt for those budget-pleasing deals to fulfill your needs. Start making your plans by looking for “Where will be the best place to buy a Netbook on Black Friday?“
- Have a sound strategy and very specific list so that you can zero in on the best deals. Basically this means: form your tech dream list, price compare on IMshopping, and read as many reviews as you can. Look at questions such as “Where can I get a copy of Turok for the Nintendo GameCube?”
- Know which products are trending to be big sellers and possibly come with deep discounts attached this holiday season. This is important since you don’t want to be like I was in 1983. Standing in a line being jostled about while 8 months pregnant on the off chance I could buy my future son a Cabbage Patch kid. Start making sure you are ahead of the crowd by knowing “Where is the best place to buy the whole Zhu Zhu hamster set? Does anyone offer a discount for buying the whole kit n kaboodle?”
So after doing all of that, you’ll need to consider being open to things like refurbished products or even take advantage of some “buy one, get one” type deals as a way of saving in the long run. Managing your tech-buying budget during this holiday season is all about researching and knowing your online shopping options as much as it is about deciding what to buy and what to pass on.
